Research Assignment 1
Dorothea Lange
Dorothea Lange (1895-1965) is an American photojournalist. Her pictures are black and white which best describe the sadness may have in the immigrants’ stories during the Great Depression. The composition in her photos is normally irregular. Her idea for the pictures stems from the Great Depression’s unemployed men wandered San Francisco’s streets by the time she was out of money also. Another inspiration for her was the migrant people that she lived with some time.
Walker Evans (1903-1975) is an American photographer. He had
the same kind of pictures which is black and white, and the same irregular
composition as Lange. However, instead of focus on people only, his pictures
are variety. Therefore, his inspiration came from many things, too, like the
essence of American life or subway portrait.
